I have a really good relationship with my students. I'm pretty much nothing like them as far as family background, history, and race go. But I'm telling you, once I started singing their music, poorly, they bought into what I was selling. So thanks to BET, VH1, and once in a while MTV. I mostly dislike the music, but they think it's pretty cool/dorky/funny when I sing the Pussycat Dalls' Don't Cha. Mostly I don't know any of the song but simply shaking of my butt while singing tops the cake. My students, the "at risk" kids, just need someone who cares about them and is willing to listen to them. They want respect and some entertainment. They're different from me in almost every way, but they're exactly like me in what make them want to learn.
Alright, enough of that. I'm sick. But I can't call in tomorrow because we HAVE to get started on Romeo and Juliet. We spent the last two days typing our movie reviews and spinning our wheels. If we don't get R&J started, we're never going to get through it. So, despite my cough, chest ache, headache, and general crappy feeling, I'll be there tomorrow so we can get the ball rolling.
If anyone (Randy and Derek) are interested, you can check out the new blog I created for our class. So far it has one entry which was an assignment I created for the kids who were done typing their papers and didn't have anything else to do. Eventually my students will update and post on the blog...or at least that's the idea. I don't know if it'll develop much or not. But the behavior problems are almost non-existant when they're using the computers. The problem, though, is that we don't have a computer lab. We just have a cart of laptops that we have to reserve in advance...oh well. Here is the link if anyone (Randy and Derek) are interested in seeing what we/I do.
